History of the school

Mrs A V N C HIGH SCHOOL ( Previously known as The ANGLO VERNACULAR SCHOOL) was founded in 1860.For about 36 years after its establishment it was supported by leading Zamindars of the district. In 1878 the status of the school was raised to Second grade college affiliated to Madras University .It was named as HINDU COLLEGE.

When the school was in financial crisis Late Shri A.V.NARASINGA ROW , the then Deputy collector of Visakhapatnam , in his will of 8th may 1892 bequeathed a lakh of rupees and 11 acres of land including a palatial building , besides a building fund of rupees 15,000 to establish a college in Visakhapatnam for educational needs under the designation of Mrs.Ankitam Venkata Narasinga Row's college.

The High school and college achieved remarkable progress and produced many gems in all fields who were scattered all over the world. A few of them were here.

The only Indian NOBLE LAUREATE for physical sciences Sir C.V.RAMAN is an old student of this institute.

Former chairman , VUDA; Former MAYOR of Visakha Municipal Corporation ; Former chairman , Bar Council of India ; Leading Lawyer , Present Correspondent of our high school Sri D V SUBBARAO is also an old student of this High school.

The famous Telugu cini artists late Sri S.V.RANGARAO, late Sri KONGARA JAGGAYYA, Sri GOLLAPUDI MARUTHI RAO were also produced from this High school.

Sri ADIBHATLA NARAYANA DAS famous for his HARI KADHA also product of this institute.

Former Vice Chancellor of ANDHRA UNIVERSITY Sri MADDI GOPALA KRISHNA REDDY also an old student of this institute.

Famous Cardiologist Sri G.SAI GOPAL , famous politicians Late Sri TENNETI VISWANADHAM , Ex M.L.A Sri GANABABU , present ministers Sri DHARMANA PRASADARAO, Sri P. BALA RAJU , Govt. Whip Sri DRONAMRAJU SREENIVAS, present M.L.A. Sri T VIJAYA KUMAR, present M.L.C. Sri M.V.S.SARMA are all products of this institute.

Former Mayors Smt RAJANA RAMANI, Sri SABBAM HARI were studied in this institute.

The school building consists of 16 rooms (in which 10 class rooms , 1 headmaster's room ,2 staff rooms (1 for ladies and 1 for gents ), 1 office room , 1 computer room , 1 Arts & Crafts room )
